How to move around the city

All tourists visiting Zurich should purchase the Zürich-Card. The card holders are entitled to travel free for 24 or 72 hours in the whole area of Zurich, using trains, buses, boats, cableways and any other public transport. Moreover, with this card you have free access to 43 museums, and in 24 participant restaurants you will be offered a welcome drink. But there are many other benefits for possessors of the card, like a 50 % discount on some foot excursions.

Zurich card can be purchased at the Tourist Centre inside the main station and in all ticket offices of the city.

As for cars, you must be informed that traffic in Switzerland is very intense but fluent, with the exception of summer season, when access to tunnels is regulated by a traffic light.

Swiss citizens are generally very respectful of speed limits, also because fines are very expensive. There is a fine of 10 CHF for each exceeding km/h.

On all Swiss highways vehicles must be provided with a yearly card, a pass that can be purchased for CHF 40 at service stations, at the borders, at post offices, at Swiss Automobil Clubs(ACS; 3000 Berna 13, Wasserwerkgasse 39, tel. 031/3283111) or at the Touring Club Svizzero (TCS; 1211 Ginevra 3, Rue Pierre Fatio 9).

The card has a validity of 14 months. At any of the abovementioned associations you can also get a parking pass for the so called “blue zones”, as in most Swiss cities access to the old town is subject to purchase of this pass.

As for bike rental in more than 300 train station are available 3500 bikes to rent, with prices starting from 10 CHF. The Swiss Touring Club also offers a bike rental service (tel. 061/2611655).
